Ask your child about AR! Accelerated Reader is a research-based reading program that combines technology, motivation, and individualized instruction. Parents are encouraged to monitor their child’s reading with AR Home Connect. Teachers provide access information at the beginning of the year and parents can log onto Home Connect anywhere there is Internet access. Your child has access to more than 100,000 popular Accelerated Reader titles in our media center! In addition to the extensive collection in our library, teachers also have collections of AR books in their classrooms. However, many students may choose to visit public libraries for additional resources. Please feel free to contact your child's teacher with any questions or concerns. Home Connect offers the ability to view overall reading progress along with detailed quiz information. Your child’s username is the same that he/she uses to log into AR at school.

How Parents Can Help

The classroom teacher can give you the reading zone for your child's independent reading. If you know the zone (example: Reading Level 1.5-2.5), you can help him/her choose books. Check through your children's books at home. Read Aloud Together. This is one of the most important elements. Have your child read to you and you can read to him/her. Ask questions about the story. This will help with fluency and reading comprehension.

What benefits do students receive from AR?

Both the student and teacher get immediate, individualized constructive feedback to direct ongoing reading practice. Better readers are better students across the curriculum! Research confirms that AR children show faster growth in reading achievement than other students. AR Readers receive awards of Quarterly AR Celebrations, AR Tags, etc. when they reach certain goals set at their reading level. Children learn to love reading! Thank you for helping your child learn to read well!
